How to build a powerful and efficient network
Nobody can honestly pretend that Social Media is not important. Even if it seems complicated and way too much information Social Media is one of the most direct ways to get in contact with customers and business associates.
Communication has always been important for business development and with networks like Xing and LinkedIn it has become quite simple to build up business relationships.
Unfortunately there are still a lot of mistakes to be made. We thus give you 7 tips which should help you to present yourself in a more professional and effective way.
Profile Picture
It is the first impression of you and your business. Looking at a face we can relate to is usually more appealing than looking at a corporate logo. Keep it professional and smile. People feel attracted to smiling people and the response is higher and more positive. Never ever us pictures from your last fiesta or holidays!
Brief description
This information is underrated but remember that search results will show your name, your job description and this short piece of information. It could be a slogan, a job description or something. Be creative and stand out the crowd.
Wants and haves
Give detailed information and again: be creative! Everybody writes “new contacts” but this should be a given if you join a network like LinkedIn or Xing. Write what people might search for. If you know your industry you hopefully know the appropriate terms for what you offer. With a bit of creativity this can also become a good peg to get in contact with potential associates or customers.
Professional Experience
Describe your positions in detail and don´ t just list your duties and responsibilities but rather add advanced trainings, achievements and specific expertise.
Groups
Be part of different and suitable groups according to your job description, interests and aims. Be careful to always use appropriate language and write qualitative and interesting postings.
Contacts
The amount of your contacts is not as important as the quality. Be aware that your reputation can be influenced by one of your friends in a negative way. Constantly adapt your visible network to your current position and needs.
Keywords
In order to be found in search engines allow them to get access to your profile data. Put applicable keywords in descriptions but also some niche tags which are unlikely to be used by others. This will push your search visibility both in and outside the network.
As you see networking is an effective addition to business communications.
It´ s a 24/7 business but you don´ t need to be on-line all the time. Just be sure to update your profile regularly. Keeping these simple rules in mind it should be easy to stay connected and benefit from your built network.
