A tutorial to help you create your own Packing tapes
Packing tapes have been a printable product, available on print24 for quite a while now. These customisable tapes are guaranteed to make your package stand out of the crowd whilst attracting everyone’s attention! Furthermore, Packing tapes printed with your own logo or promotional message will definitely have a certain advertising impact.
We’ve created a little tutorial for you to correctly create and incorporate your printing data set so you won’t make any mistake when ordering your Packing tapes. We are looking forward to your orders!
1. Create a new document in InDesign
First and foremost you have to set the format of your Packing tapes. The tape width of our products is always 50 mm, while the length is 66m. The length of your design can vary from 169.6 mm up to 458.8 mm.
It is very important that you place your texts and images at least 5 mm away from the edge. Furthermore, you should make sure your design’s edges reach the bleed’s. Please create a 2 mm bleed peripherally to your design.
2. Design the layout
As mentioned above, you should place your layout within the bleed in order to avoid white “spots”. The Color Type of your Packing tapes has to be defined as Spot and has to be named properly, e.g. “HKS 44 K”.
Please use vectors for your motives only, as raster graphics cannot be done. In our example, the print24 logo (circle) is an .eps file.
It is also important to convert all fonts into paths.
3. Export and check
In order for us to be able to print your Packing tapes, we need your printing data as a PDF file. Therefore, export your complete layout from InDesign and choose the following settings:
- Adobe PDF, choose PDF/X-3 or PDF/X-4, Color profile ISO Coated v2, Fogra 39 L
- Tick the box “Use Document Bleed Settings” (2 mm)
- Click on the Ink Manager. Here, the colour with the correct name has to show up as a Spot colour.
