1. What are premium papers and what makes them special?

Premium papers are first and foremost papers that differ from conventional coated art paper by virtue of their particularly refined properties. This means that premium papers were treated using more complex production processes than ordinary papers and can, for example, have been screened, smoothed or embossed.

At print24.com, many printing products are available with high-quality papers. These are offset papers with exclusive properties that are ideal for high-quality office equipment, for example.

Premium papers

  • Chamois, bright white, ribbed, linen
  • different grammages, e.g. 100 gsm or 300 gsm
  • for Letterheads, Flyers, Calendars, Compliment slips, Envelopes, Postcards and Business cards
  • SPECIAL: Luxecore

Depending on the type of premium paper, they provide an extraordinary feel – as, for example, with a ribbed surface – and an attractive appearance, as is the case with the bright white paper, for example. They are also suitable for reprinting and writing.

Grammage: The paper thickness

The grammage is the basis weight of the paper. It is expressed in grams per square meter, hence the designation gsm. The higher the weight per square meter, the stronger and more stable the paper. For high-quality printing products, a higher grammage is therefore recommended.

Depending on the product, the premium papers from print24.com are available with grammages between 100 gsm (printer-suitable) and 350 gsm. You can find an overview of the possible uses of paper with different thicknesses in this table:

Grammage Use
80–100 gsm For photocopies and simple prints.
110–120 gsm For your own business equipment, for example stationery, but also Brochures.
130–170 gsm For Flyers, inside pages of Books or Posters.
170–200 gsm For covers of Brochures, high-quality Posters and Calendars.
200–250 gsm For Postcards, Invitation cards and Greeting cards.
300–400 gsm For Business cards, strong Folded cards with creasing.
> 400 gsm For extra strong Business cards, Postcards or Job application folders.

Please note that these are indicative values. If necessary, a different grammage may also be suitable for your particular printing product.

CIE: The degree of whiteness

CIE, which stands for “Commission internationale de l‘ éclairage”, is a method of measuring the whiteness, often also known as brightness. The usual values are between 55 for newspapers – also known as „press white“ – and up to 180, which means that the higher the grade, the whiter the paper. For dazzling white results, we recommend our premium bright white paper at print24 – it has a degree of whiteness of 162% ± 4% CIE.

Table degrees of whiteness

Opacity: The light-tightness

Opacity is especially important when printing on both sides of your product. The higher the opacity, the less translucent the paper is. Accordingly, a paper with 100% opacity does not allow any light to shine through. In such a case, even the print on the back of the paper would not shine through at all on the front. The light impermeability depends on the thickness of the paper and the degree of whiteness.

2. Different kinds of premium papers from print24

At print24.com, in addition to the classic coated art papers and offset papers, many products are available with four different noble papers in two grammages each. For Business cards, the extraordinary Luxecore version with a colour core is also available. We would like to introduce you to these special papers here!

Premium chamois

The word Chamois originates from French. The premium chamois paper has a warm natural colour (cream white) and is suitable for printing products that are supposed to stand out from the ordinary white paper. It offers a velvet-like surface similar to the bright white paper and feels particularly luxurious.

Depending on the printing product, print24.com offers you a chamois paper with 100 gsm (printer-suitable) or 300 gsm. Thus, for example, certificates can be created.

Premium ribbed

The premium ribbed and premium linen papers belong to the structure papers. Ribbed paper is often referred to as Vergé paper. The white surface of the ribbed paper from print24 is fluted and, thanks to its exceptional feel, ideal for Letterheads as well as for high-quality Invitations or Greeting cards.

For example, give away Business cards with the 350 gsm paper and make a professional impression on your customers or business partners when handing them over.

Like the ribbed paper, the premium linen paper belongs to the textured papers. As the name suggests, linen paper is reminiscent of linen in terms of its surface structure; it is thus embossed and is particularly soft to the touch.

Business cards with linen paper are particularly elegant and well-received by business partners. However, the premium linen paper from print24.com is also ideal for documents or other special occasions.
