Processing types at print24
Depending on the textile product, a different processing technique is used. Whether direct-to-garment printing, embroidery or flocking – here we will show you the differences and what distinguishes these techniques from one another.
Direct-to-garment und digital transfer printing
Digital transfer printing is a cost-effective, fast yet high-quality DDP process using base papers. First, the prepared design is applied to the substrate using digital printing. After drying, it is pressed onto the fabric under heat and high pressure. For dark textiles, the transfer paper is trimmed to fit the contours of the design.
Flex sublimation and flock sublimation printing

Flex sublimation printing
In flock sublimation printing, also called “flocking”, the design is pressed on by transfer printing. The printing layer consists of velvety flock fibres. Flock sublimation printing is particularly suitable for small print runs. For example for individual designs such as numbers or names – ideal for Jerseys or Running T-shirts. In contrast to flex sublimation printing, the printing is inelastic and has a slightly embossed surface.
With flex sublimation printing, the desired design – similar to flocking – is pressed on and fused under high pressure and high temperature. The flex film has a flexible plastic membrane as a printing layer, which ensures a smooth surface. The difference to flock sublimation printing is therefore embedded in the material.
With both processing options, opaque colours are possible on light and dark textiles – colour gradients or particularly small fineness, however, are often not feasible.
Embroidering
Up to 12 different thread colours are possible per design. When creating your printing data, you have to make sure that you create the data as a vector graphic design and select spot colours (HKS, Pantone) as comparison values for the thread colours.
