[App of the Week] Vimeo

The mobile video powerhouse

April 7th, 2011, 9:18 am

Oh so long we waited for this App and now that it finally arrived it even exceeds our expectations. It actually lets my geek heart beat as it isn’t a pure video viewing experience like the iOS native Youtube app and packs quite a bunch of features.

To make a long story short: Of course you can watch Vimeo videos. Yet, you can also record videos, edit them, add effects and upload them to your Vimeo account.

The „my videos“ area gives you an overview of all videos on your account. Besides watching your videos you can check statistics, comments and likes or edit sharing options and privacy settings. The Vimeo app even allows downloading, editing and re-uploading videos from your account. Awesome!

„Recordings“ is the folder for videos recorded with the app. The app makes a distinction between single records and projects. As mentioned above you can edit your recordings right on the iPhone. Functionality isn’t quite as extensive as the $5.99 iMovie app but the tools they included work like a charm. Combining two clips, cutting, adding transitions as well as subtitles and background music can all be done on the go. Considering the all of this comes for free the wealth of functions is absolutely impressive.

The visuals to give you a better impression of the app naturally come as embedded Vimeo video.
