[App of the Week] Park Me

find your car

Dezember 2nd, 2010, 10:34 am

Today I’ll introduce a small app which doesn’t really attract attention with exceptional design or a wealth of options. But quite often an app becomes great due to a reduction down to the necessary in the first place.

The purpose of the app is to let you find your parked car in an area or city you don’t know too well.
Handling of the app could hardly be easier. After starting it, the app automatically locates you on a map (you have to allow access to GPS-data when it asks you to). In an optimum scenario that would be where you parked your car. Just click the “Park Me” button, close the app and go wherever you please. Once you wish to find your car you just start the app again and click the tiny route symbol. With that your iPhone switches to the Google maps app which then calculates the walking directions to get you back to your car. You of course get the familiar information about distance and the estimated time you need. When you found your car you just press the little check button and can start again if you wish so.

One gimmick the developers included as an extra is the option to take a picture of your parking spot or the surroundings. That might be really handy on a crowded parking deck with slot numbers you would never remember otherwise.

That’s about everything we need to explain about this simple app, which is completely free and available for iPhone and iPad.
