What distinguishes softcover books?
Softcover books have the advantage over hardcover books that the cover is more flexible and not so rigid. In addition, the small formats are very handy. In general, softcover books are cheaper than hardcover books.
These books are therefore ideal if you want to produce a large number of copies at low cost.
Softcover books in 12 formats and special formats
You can have your softcover book printed in 12 standard formats from DIN A6 (105 x 148 millimetres) to DIN A4 (210 x 297 millimetres). You can also choose from three square formats. These are recommended for picture-heavy books or children's books with lots of drawings. Photo books can also be printed as square soft covers. To send your book in an envelope, the DIN long format is ideal.
If you decide on the softcover version, you have even more advantages. You can also choose a special format or have the book printed in landscape format. The landscape format is perfect if you want to print simple music books.
High-quality papers and printing options
You can choose coated art paper in matt or gloss in grammages from 90 to 170 gsm for your softcover books. Alternatively, you can choose offset paper in bright white. This paper can be easily processed in a standard printer and is suitable for copying.
This also applies to the environmentally friendly recycled paper, which is certified with the Blue Angel. For the cover of your books, we use coated art paper in a strength of 170 or 250 gsm. The choice is yours.
Finishing options for the book cover
We can create a cover of up to eight pages for your softcover book. How about choosing special colours such as Pantone, gold or silver in addition to CMYK for printing the cover? These special colours are ideal for printing in your corporate colours as well as for an even and full-surface colour application.
In addition to the choice of colours, you can have your envelopes finished. A total of eight variants are possible. Hot foil relief embossing is very appealing with a haptic effect. It is possible in gold, silver, red or blue and copper.
In addition, we can apply UV surface varnish to the cover, which gives the cover an even more exquisite touch.
Very elegant is blind embossing, which is suitable for titles or the author's name.
Black or CMYK - what should it be?
For printing of books, we rely on classic printing in black or alternatively on the CMYK technique. With it we can also realise coloured pictures or coloured fonts.
So choose CMYK if, for example, you want to print a recipe book, tour guide, comic, or photo book.
